Last year, I began to garden. Well, container gardening really, since I’m in an apartment. Having lived in a city all my life, getting my hands into the dirt and watching plants grow was all new to me, and very soon it became much more than simply plants and pretty flowers.
My timid platings of basil and marigolds last year invited a plethora of other guests like bees, bugs, finches, hummingbirds and even the occasional butterfly. They became my regular musical friends and I couldn’t help but notice how much they seemed to love Mozart. Any time I started playing the sonata, I almost always heard a nearby chirp or tweet singing along. And whenever I switched to something, it would inevitably be gone.
I don’t know if it was just me, or if my bird friends are truly particular about classical music! I missed them in the winter and this summer, went all out on my garden. I did underestimate how much water and maintenance it would take though haha, but it’s still fun. I have a total of 15 some plants with a lot of flowers. There’s hardly any porch left.
This year, I have some new friends visiting and probably many more to come in the summer. I sure hope they like Beethoven! Or maybe they’ll finally get me to start that Mozart rondo movement. 🙂
Here’s my garden in pictures.
This little guy woke me up bright and early today, as though waking me up and saying “Hey get out of bed! Let’s hear some music already!”
